Drew Barrymore watches romantic comedies when she has had a "crap day".

The actress - who stars opposite on/off boyfriend Justin Long in new movie 'Going the Distance' - admits a good rom-com always puts a smile on her face when life is getting the better of her.

She said: "I need them (rom-coms) at the end of a crap day - a nice happy ending and a fairytale.

"On the other hand I like movies that are very grounded in reality but still maintain their comedy."

Although Drew enjoys the often light-hearted genre, she doesn't relate to movies which depict women as wedding obsessed and needy.

She added to the London Evening Standard newspaper: "I swear to God, with some of these romantic comedies, these women are being shot in the butt with steroids, and I feel like they'll eat the husband alive on their wedding day. It just terrifies me - I don't relate to that at all. I'm not at that place in my life where I want to play a character who says, 'I just have to get married.'
