Simon Monjack's death cause revealed

Simon Monjack died of pneumonia "just like" his wife Brittany Murphy.

The coroner's office has confirmed the British screenwriter - who was found dead at the couple's Hollywood home on May 23, just five months after his wife passed away from the same illness - was suffering from the inflammatory condition, as well as severe anaemia.

Los Angeles' Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said: "Just like Brittany."

He added that some prescription drugs were found in the 40 year old's system, but not at lethal levels.

At the request of Simon's family, another test is to be conducted before the full autopsy report is released.

Brittany's mother Sharon Murphy has welcomed the findings.

She said: "I am still in shock and mourning over the deaths of my daughter Brittany and son-in-law Simon.

"It is with great relief that Simon's preliminary autopsy findings have been released, so the media speculations can stop. As I was sure of, just like my daughter Brittany, there was no kind of drug overdose."

'8 Mile' actress Brittany - who was found dead in December 2009 aged 32 - also died from pneumonia, with anaemia as a contributing factor.
