Katherine Heigl wanted to "smother" her husband during her maternity leave.
The 'Grey's Anatomy' actress - who has 17-month-old adopted daughter Naleigh with her spouse Josh Kelley - says her three-month career break was the longest she had spent with the musician since they first started dating five years ago and admits she occasionally felt the strain.
She joked: "There were a good few weeks when I almost smothered him with his pillow. But that's marriage, two people with totally different lives and totally different experiences just trying to fit."
Shortly after adopting Naleigh, Katherine - who married Josh in December 2007 - worked on movie 'Life As We Know It' and claims it "broke her heart" to have to act alongside children who weren't her daughter.
She told America's Harper's Bazaar magazine: "It was crazy, because as my character was learning how to take care of a one-year-old, I was too. But as I was working with these gorgeous little triplets who play my child, I was feeling bad that I was spending more time with them than with my own kid. And that broke my heart."
The 31-year-old star thinks she is now ready to grow up and hopes she can finally get herself to a position where she stops worrying about her mistakes.
She added: "Now it's time to re-evaluate and grow up. I hope by my mid-30s, I get to the point where I don't doubt myself. I'm going to make mistakes and say stupid things, but I won't have to sit in a room in the dark and wonder, 'Am I a bad person?' It will be 'OK, Katie, enough with the drama.' "
