Bret Michaels expected to recover fully: doctor

Rocker and reality TV star Bret Michaels has been released from a Phoenix hospital and is expected to make a full recovery from his near fatal brain hemorrhage late last month, his doctor said on Tuesday.

"I really expect that he will fortunately make a 100 percent recovery," said Dr. Joseph Zabramski, a neurosurgeon at the Barrow Neurological Institute, who treated the singer.

"He's just one of those lucky people...he'll make a complete recovery and be able to resume all (his) normal activities," Zabramski told a news conference.

Michaels, 47, frontman for the rock band Poison and a contestant on this season's reality TV show "Celebrity Apprentice" suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage in the base of his skull on April 25.

Zabramski said Michaels had not suffered any further seizures in the hospital, but that he did have some slurred speech and was fairly unaware of his surroundings on his first day of hospitalization.

The doctor added that he was "pretty confident" there were no risks of further aneurysms or other complications and that the singer had been discharged from the hospital.

He did not say where Michaels had been taken for recovery, but he had recommended at least four-to-six weeks of convalescence.

When it came to resuming touring with Poison, Zabramski said he did not know if or when that might be possible. The band was in the middle of a U.S. tour when Michaels was taken ill.

"What I made him promise me is that he would make no promises...we will reassess him at two week intervals. He's still very sick right now," Zabramski said. "He's a very determined person, and it depends on how quickly he recovers."
