Film Independent's Spirit Awards nominees announced

This morning the nominees for the 2008 Film Independent's Spirit Awards were announced, and it looks like I'm Not There could rule the night.

Cate Blanchett and Marcus Carl Franklin are up for acting awards, and Todd Haynes received his fifth nomination for best director. Other nods for best picture included Juno, A Mighty Heart, Paranoid Park and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

Chinese actor Tony Leung and actress Tang Wei have been nominated for best leading actor and actress for their performance in Ann Lee's film "Lust, Caution".

Other notable nominees:

Adrienne Shelly received a posthumous nod for her Waitress screenplay.

The best female lead category includes Angelina Jolie, Sienna Miller, Parker Posey (for Broken English), Lust, Caution's Tang Wei and 20-year-old Ellen Page.

Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman is nominated for best male lead for The Savages.

Once and Persepolis are among the nominees in foreign-film category.

Nominees for best first feature include Rocket Science, The Lookout and Julie Delpy's 2 Days in Paris.

The Film Independent's Spirit Awards honor movies made for $20 million or less that offer a unique vision not often found in mainstream filmmaking. This year, 250 films were submitted for approval.

Zach Braff and Lisa Kudrow announced the noms Tuesday morning from the Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles.

Winners will be announced on Feb. 23, the day before the Academy Awards.
