Country star Keith Urban insists that his 90 day stint at the Betty Ford clinic in Palm Springs, California, is what saved his marriage to Nicole Kidman from collapsing.

The singer entered rehab for alcoholism in October 2006, shortly after the couple wed in June that year.

Urban however, insists that entering rehab at the time was one of the wisest decisions that he had ever made, for not only did it save his career, but also more importantly his marriage.

"My wife was away. She hadn't really been away before, and it came as a shock to me to be alone and not prepared for it; alone with this thing that I had, this big monkey on my back. Not going in would have cost me my career at the very least, and my marriage would have been gone, anyway," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.

"That real cleansing and surrendering everything is what was really needed for me. I realised, 'This is the crossroads of my life. If I want a life, this is the time to take charge.' It sounds strange, but I'm glad it happened.

"There's no doubt that what it's done for our marriage has been truly divine. It has brought my wife and me to a place that may never have happened for us," he added.
