A controversial and highly-anticipated on-screen kiss between fromer Friends stars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox is a big hit on video sharing site YouTube.

The kiss between the friends happened as part of Cox's new sitcom Dirt, and is available to view on YouTube.

The video has had more than 1.3 million hits, and was one of last week's most popular videos.

In Dirt, Cox stars as Lucy Spiller, the editor in charge of a tabloid magazine. In a one-off guest appearance, Aniston played a rival magazine editor in the final of the show's 13 episodes.

It was the first time the pair had been on screen together since Friends ended in 2004.

Dirt has received mixed reviews, and is yet to be renewed by American network FX.

The pair's kiss has been a talking point for months, with internet speculation building as word of Aniston's appearance on Dirt spread.

But it proved to be disappointing for some Friends fans, with one YouTube viewer saying: "That was lame."

Another viewer said: "I can't believe this caused so much fuss."

TV2 has the screening rights to Dirt, but have not yet set a screening date, spokeswoman Melanya Burrows said.
