Blanchett keeping up with the Indy Jones?(E! Online)Updated: 2007-03-17 09:22
Los Angeles (E! Online) - If adventure has a name, then it must be¡Cate Blanchett? The Oscar winner is in negotiations to star opposite Harrison Ford in the hugely anticipated fourth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise. No word what Blanchett's role will be. Director Steven Spielberg, producer George Lucas, who came up with the story idea, and screenwriter David Koepp have been tight-lipped about the sequel's plot. But given her star power, it's more likely than not Blancett, 37, is being eyed to play the 64-year-old Ford's latest leading lady. If so, she'd follow in the footsteps of Karen Allen (tough-talking Marian Ravenwood in Raiders o the Lost Ark), Kate Capshaw (whiny Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) and Alison Doody (the beautiful but villainous Dr. Elsa Schneider in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). One actor who won't be keeping up with the Jones, however, is Shia LaBeouf. The former kid star of the Disney Channel's Even Stevens¡ªwhose career is on the rise with notable parts in such flicks as I Robot, Constantine, Bobby and the upcoming live-action Transformers movie¡ªis denying a Daily Variety report that he's in talks to play Indy's son in the latest chapter. "The way that thing started, it's just wild how it snowballed," the 20-year-old LaBeouf told the Associated Press Thursday. "I don't have a deal on the table, it's jut a rumor. Would I do it? In a second. It'd be working for a legend and working with legends. Who wouldn't? But it is something I'm doing right now? No. I'm an out-of-work actor." An insider at Paramount Pictures, which distributed the first three Indy films and will do likewise with the fourth installment, told E! Online that LaBeouf's casting is "purely speculation" and that the studio is not in negotiations with him. So far, all that we do know about the yet-to-be-titled sequel is that the story is set in the 1950s and will tackle the age issue as a somewhat creaky, if still capable Dr. Jones battles baddies in the hunt for yet another mysterious archaeological relic. Indy 4 is scheduled to begin filming in June for a May 22, 2008 release. |
