2010-Jan-7 16:00:40

Volkswagen AG sold 36.7 percent more cars in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong in 2009 than in 2008, the company said on Thursday.

That is in line with a 37 percent annual growth in the first nine months of 2009.

The top European automaker sold 1.4 million vehicles in the mainland and Hong Kong in 2009, up from 1.02 million units a year earlier, it said in a statement.

Auto sales in China, the world's largest market, surged last year, boosted by government incentives aimed at bolstering domestic demand.
