Traffic peaks as holidays end

长假尾声迎旅客返程流

China's transportation system is accommodating waves of peak traffic on October 7-8 as millions of travelers make their way home during the last 2 days of the National Day holiday. Road transportation carried 62m passengers Wednesday with around 830000 vehicles, up 5% from the same period last year. A record of 6m passengers took the railway and airlines everyday during the holidays in China. The Ministry of Transport urged local authorities to arrange additional trains and work out contingency plans to ensure travel safety.

7-8日是2009年中国国庆8天长假的最后两天，随着外出旅游和探亲的旅客陆续返程，铁路、民航和公路迎来客运返程高峰。7日，全国公路交通共投入营运客车约83万辆，完成客运量近6200万人次，比去年同期增长5%。连日来，中国铁路、民航每日发送旅客也超过600万人次。交通部日前要求各地交通运输部门加强运力，增开加班车，对突发事件做好预警，以保障游客出行安全。
