Another Scenario
eightyeight  Updated: 2004-01-19 21:17

I really do not see too much negative media or thinking in the US, that is actually directed at China. China has not been a threat to the US. Except for the tattletale book by the two Pulitzer Prize Winners and some sporadically appearing, less well known books and articles, I see little said about China that is not rather just straight forward. I see no unified effort from the media in the US with a grudge or an ax to grind with China.

It think is hard to convincibly argue that China is expansionist. China is not threatening anyone's territory. China securing its neighboring territory in a world of dangerous large powers and insurgent zealots, is reasonable. China really had no choice in its need to have control over places like Tibet, etc., because of their strategic geographic proximity (as well as their historical association) to China's borders, amidst so many unstable neighbors.

I do not believe the power-brokers in the West are concerned about China expanding beyond its own borders, at least not in the next 5 to 10 years, provided the government remains stable and continues its responsible and progressive oversight, as now. In fact, I think this is what is more probably expected. Therefore, I would agree that a 15 year projection is a foreseeable and visible timeline, especially as corporate and economic interests continue to rely on each other's cross-world trust! Thirty years might be a good bit harder to fathom!

It sounds like Mr. Chen is just full of hot air and that Taiwan will get back to the business of Taiwan. It is likely that with the continued attraction of Taiwanese businesses to come to China that bridges will soon become flooded between the two.

China alone, is the key to stabilizing North Korea. As a concession, the US government should ease immigration and visa for Chinese, not just the businessman! This would carry the biggest advantages for both the US and China, and consequently all of the West and East, and the World.

Chinese businesses need to open their markets oversees. China has unique services that if marketed and properly over seen could provide a great bridge.

Chinese foot massage salons in Hollywood, rotating workers every 6 months from the mainland.

Inexpensive films from China, but made in English and marketed with NY savvy!

Here's an idea: All of the American Chinese restaurants need to wake up and quit serving that goop to their poor but loyal Mexican customers and start serving real Chinese foods: a variety of noodle dishes, a variety of dumplings, a variety of Chinese soups and vegetables, and go into the fast health food business -- run Taco bell out of town!

How to get China into the hearts and minds of the West!

Peace
