  ABOUT IDEA
The International Debate Education Association (IDEA) develops, organizes, and promotes debate and debate-related activities in communities throughout the world. IDEA regularly organizes trainings and hosts debate events for youth on five continents, and its books and debate camps have reached thousands of youth. Operative in over thirty countries, the International Debate Education Association is not only committed to educating youth about debate, but to exploring debate as a means of education itself. Debate presents a superb means for enhancing the critical thinking and English-language skills of debating youth: when advocating an argument, responding to questions, and interacting with another debater in front of an audience, youth have a unique opportunity to learn how to express themselves and frame their thoughts dynamically in English. “The courage of debaters who can make arguments in a second language, English, which is not their mother tongue, continually inspires me – the Chinese students IDEA has met thus far have sparkled with intelligence and with courage,” said Patrick Blanchfield, IDEA’s Director of Communications.
