Jackie Chan announces retirement

Jackie Chan announces retirement

Farewell, Police Story. Goodbye, Rush Hour. Jackie Chan, the king of the Hong Kong film industry, has announced his retirement from acting.

"I will make action movies, I think, for a few more years, another five years," Chan, 51, told reporters in Kuala Lumpur while promoting his latest venture, The Myth.

However, Chan will not quit the film business all together. "I don't think I will retire. Maybe from the screen," he explained, "but [not] behind the screen."

Chan said he still considers martial arts roles relatively easy, noting that American veterans like Clint Eastwood have continued to appear in actionthrillersat an advanced age.

The Police Story star plans to continue producing and directing movies and make small-budget films and documentaries. He also said he wanted to help train young directors and stunt actors.

Chan is currently taking a break from acting in Hollywood but will return with a martial arts project, probably with the Rush Hour producers, in 2007.

His current project, The Myth, is an action-adventure film in which he plays an ancient general reincarnated as a modern-day archaeologist.
