Hotline现在已成为最常用的名词之一。这个词来源于二战以后。当时，世界政坛上非常流行hotline，它是用来指两国领导人之间的专用电话线（direct and exclusive communication link between heads of government），可以24小时通话，而且更为重要的是它可以排除窃听的可能性。后来它延伸为两国领导人在没有外人参与的情况下的直接通话。如今，这个词已经被广泛采用，报社、电台更是不能少了hot line。可以说Hot line service has become an integral part of our life.（热线服务已经成为我们生活中不可缺少的一部分。）
