另一种说法是它是由舞台产生的。当舞台上音乐响起的时候，无论是面对带有敌意的、乱起哄的观众，还是演员自己由于紧张或怯场而造成的忘词等尴尬的局面，只要催演员上场的音乐一响，演员就没有任何选择的余地，只能去face the music （必须承受出现的局面）；因此对这些演员来说，听到“催人上场的音乐”响起时，只能是“硬着头皮上”！所以也就是face the music了。
