先说“in the wind”吧。这个词组表示的意思是形容某事即将发生，也许跟汉语里的“风声”有点相似。
例如：Changes in top management of the company have been in the wind for weeks.
几周来人们一直在传说，公司上层即将进行改组。
又如：They sensed that there was something in the wind.他们察觉到要有事发生了。
而in the air 表示“在流传中，流行的”，和in the wind不同，它所描述的事情一般来说是会发生的，在人们脑海中萦绕，而不仅仅是传闻而已。
如：The war filled people’s thoughts every day; it was in the air.人们只是一门心思地想着即将爆发的战争。
In the air 还可表示某事悬而未决，不确定。如：Our plans are still in the air. 我们的计划仍悬而未决。
