螯虾天相笨拙，英语中lobster用以比喻容易受骗、动作笨拙之辈（duffer-clumsy fellow, with peculiar apperance and gait）。美国口语中称报馆值夜班为on lobster shift，也许值夜班要睁开大眼——两眼突出，lobstereyed也。
