Beijing new eat: Grandma's Kitchen

Beijing new eat: Grandma's KitchenThe new Grandma's Kitchen is the perfect place to indulge in American comfort food. The fifth member of the family, this home-style restaurant expands into the elegant Jianwai Soho complex and offers a nice retreat after a hard day at the office.

In keeping with the country farm theme, checkered tablecloths, fake chickens and painted blue chairs adorn the two floors, with fall pumpkins added for seasonal flair.

The menu remains the same, offering a mixture of traditional American eats, including all-day breakfast. The Texas-sized hamburger (45RMB) lived up to its name and certainly satisfied my cravings. A cautionary note: while the first bite of the Penne with Blue-cheese sauce (35RMB) was savory and divine, by the end, the flavor became overpowering. Still, the pasta was tasty and blue-cheese was a risky choice anyway.  Of course, the best reason to go to Grandma's Kitchen is always the mint milkshake (25RMB).

With Jianwai Soho still expanding, this addition looks like it will fit right in.

Place: No. 39, E. Third Ring Road, B/103 Jianwai SOHO
