The
Chinese History Museum is located to the east of Tian'anmen Square and faces the
Great Hall of the People. It was started in 1958 and finished in 1959. It is one
of the ten buildings that were built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the
founding of the People's Republic of China in 1959. The construction covers
69,000 square metres, is 313 metres long from north to south and 149 metres wide
from east to west. Half of the building houses the Museum of the Revolution. All
in all, the Museum of the Revolution and the Chinese History Museum have a
collection of more than 300,000 historical relics.
