BUENOS AIRES, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Boca Juniors went top of the Argentine championship on Sunday after previous leaders San Lorenzo crashed to a shock away 2-0 defeat at modest Instituto.

Instituto had failed to win any of their first seven matches and had scored only one goal before Sunday's match against previously unbeaten opponents.

Uruguayan Leonel Pilipausakas and Gonzalo Bergessio stunned San Lorenzo with two goals in the opening half hour and the visitors never looked capable of clawing their way back into the game.

San Lorenzo, who have 15 points from eight games, dropped for fifth in the table with the loss, below Independiente on goal difference.

Boca, led by former Argentina coach Alfio Basile, took full advantage by beating Racing Club 2-0.

Defender Daniel Diaz headed home Federico Insua's free kick after 20 minutes and Rodrigo Palacio added the second five minutes before halftime after Sebastian Battaglia pounced on a defensive mistake to set up the chance.

Boca were rarely threatened by the visitors, even after defender Juan Krupoviesa was sent off in the 66th minute for punching an opponent in an off-the-ball incident.
