Beijing to put US$38.66b into 860 projects

News from the Beijing Infrastructure Construction International Forum says that from 2005 to 2008 Beijing will put over 320 billion yuan into the construction of more than 860 infrastructure projects.
Ding Xiangyang, chairman of the Beijing Development and Reform Committee, said from 2005 to 2008 Beijing would put about 184 billion yuan into transportation construction, which accounts for over half of the total investment. It would add to rail transportation by 132 kilometers; rebuild and expand 1,230 kilometers of national highway, motorway and ordinary highways as well as 900 kilometers of city roads.
Investment in energy infrastructure projects would be 50 billion yuan. These new projects include 2,100 kilometers of gas pipelines, 60,000 tons of gas storage capability and 2,300 megawatts of heating capability. Investment in water resource construction would be 18 billion yuan, which would mainly be used in the South-north Water Diversion project and 400 kilometers of reclaimed water pipelines, five city water reclamation factories and some water reclamation factories in the suburb.
The revamping of city environment would receive 16 billion yuan while postal communications and infrastructure construction in the new city would receive 43 billion yuan.
