Laoting County promotes agricultural projects, tourism
Laoting County in North China's Hebei Province is wooing investors from home and abroad to join its agricultural projects, said Huang Jingdong, magistrate of the County. The projects on offer include establishing a foodstuff production line for the processing of fresh peach, with an annual output of 16,000 tons, a vegetable processing plant and model cow farm.
Laoting, with a population of 492,000, is an agricultural county. It is called the "Eastern Granary of Hebei" with an arable land of 98,000 mu. The agro-products mainly include vegetables, fruits, animal husbandry and aquatic products. Huang said the county's value-added in agriculture ranked 1st in the province in 2002; the net income per capita in the county reached 4,047 yuan in 2003, the tenth year with a growth rate of over 5 percent in a row. The county is the largest vegetable production base in eastern Hebei with over 400,000 mu of vegetables. The output volume is expected to hit 2.06 million tons with a production value of 600 million yuan. The county planted a total of 270,000 mu of fruit trees with an estimated output volume of 580,000 tons and production value of 1.1 billion yuan.
The progress in structural adjustments of agriculture has won great fames for the county, a leading counties in fruits and vegetables production in China, and the county has won the name as "China's fresh peach home" and "national level base of green vegetables production". The county is also rich in tourist resources, said Huang. There are three scenic islands in the county, namely, the Puti Island, Yuetou Island and Jinsha Island. There are also two beaches, namely, Gold and Silver Beach and Blue Sea Beach. Over 100,000 people visit them every year, said Huang. |
