Most of the rivers in Hebei Province are originated from ShanXi Plateau and Taihangshan and Yanshan mountain, run through Hebei plain and finally empty into the Bohai Sea. The total water amount for Hebei Province is 20.3 billion cubic meters, among which surface water amounts to 12.5 billion cubic meters and groud water amounts to 13 billion cubic meters.

The two main water systems of Hebei province are the HaiHe River and the LuanHe River.

The HaiHe River is the biggest water system in the province with an annual runoff amount of 7.6 billion cubic meters and total drainage area reaches 260,000 square kilometers among which 140,000 square kilometers is in Hebei province.

The Luanhe River as the second river in north China is also the mother river for Chengde, the national tourism city and Tangshan, a key industrial base of the province. The annual average runoff amount reaches five billion cubic meters, the drainage area is over 50,000 square kilometers among which 45,800 square kilometers is within the boundary of Hebei province.
