Abdullah made the call at a meeting with visiting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier here.

He said the future of the Middle East peace process largely depends on the results of Israel's general election next month. The outcome will be pivotal to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

As for the war-ravaged Iraq, Abdullah and Steinmeier agreed the international community should continue to back Iraq's political process. Both of them believed it is important to establish an independent, united and stable Iraq, stressing the Iraqi people and all political parties in Iraq should participate in the country's political process.

Steinmeier expressed appreciation for Abdullah's efforts to help realize security and stability in the Middle East. He reiterated Germany will continue to support the peace process of the region and work for Iraq's reconstruction together with the international community.

Steinmeier arrived here on Tuesday for a brief visit. He will also visit Israel, the Palestinian territories and Turkey.
