Thieves raid grave of wife of HK tycoon

Four people tried to rob the grave of the wife of Hong Kong's richest man Li Ka-shing, local media reported Monday.

Local network Cable TV showed a tombstone bearing the name of Li's wife, Li Chong Yuet-ming. The report said her tomb was the only one damaged in the cemetery, and footage showed police covering it with canvas and cordoning off the area around it.

Police spokeswoman Cynthia Au said an electric drill, shovels, and gloves were found next to a damaged grave at a local cemetery early Monday.

Au declined to say whether the tomb belonged to the tycoon's wife but said police contacted the grave owner, who confirmed that nothing was stolen.

The thieves also robbed two cemetery employees of cash and valuables worth about 70,000 Hong Kong dollars (US$8,974; euro7,465) with an air pistol, knives and a folding knife, Au said.
