The commander of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Haiti, Brazilian Lt. Gen. Urano Teixeira da Matta Bacellar, has been found dead in his hotel room, said reports reaching here from Port-au-Prince, capital of the troubled Caribbean country.

The body of Bacellar, who took over the 9,000-strong U.N. peacekeeping force MINUSTAH at the end of August, was found on Saturday morning in his room at the Hotel Montana.
