HANOI - Vietnam, which is seeking non- permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, will take part in UN peacekeeping missions, a spokesman of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry said Friday.

"Vietnam has decided to run for non-permanent membership of the Security Council for the 2008-2009 term and is preparing so that when sufficient conditions warrant, Vietnam will participate in UN peacekeeping operations," spokesman Le Dung said.
Vietnam, as a proactive member of the international community, will join hand in sharing UN responsibilities in keeping international peace and security, he added.
The Security Council is the most powerful UN organ, whose decisions are legally binding all UN member states.
