Abandoned mine collapse leaves 11 missing

Another three people were reported missing in the iron-mine collapse accident that occurred Monday in Anyang City, central China's Henan Province, bringing those missing up to 11, the provincial work safety administration said Saturday.

Earlier report said eight people were buried as an iron mine, which was abandoned in 1992, collapsed at around 1:05 p.m. Monday afternoon in Anyang County of the city. Local residents said there were another three missing during the accident, and local police are working to confirm the information.

The accident formed a pit 100 meters long, 50 meters wide and 60-70 meters deep.

Experts say the victims have faint chance to survive.

Preliminary investigation by local geologists cited the accident as a geological disaster.
