2.2 tons of cocaine seized in Madrid

Spanish police seized 2.2 tons of cocaine in Madrid on Wednesday night in the biggest bust in Spanish history, police said on Thursday.

According to police, the drug was hidden in one-kg packs in several tanks at the Barajas International Airport and in the Loeches community in Madrid.

The drug was brought in from Venezuela to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with a stopover in Miami of the United States, and was supposedly bound for a firm of Seville.

Three Spanish men, aged from 27 to 33, were arrested Wednesday night when they went to pick up five tanks of drug hidden in Loeches. The remaining drug was found at Barajas.

Police were still searching for those accountable for the distribution of the drug, who police believe were hiding in Madrid and nearby places during the holidays.
