Capital to work on ancient time
(The Beijing News)
Updated: 2005-12-28 10:22

Bei Lou, an ancient calculagraph, has been replicated and was installed on the drum and bell towers in Beijing on Sunday.

The device was widely used as a clock in the past, but after the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the technology was lost.

Earlier this year, the Suzhou Ancient Calculagraph Institution started to investigate ways of reviving the use of the ancient clock.

Researchers studied all the old documents they could find, and worked out how to replicate it at last.

Beijingers can now use the ancient clock to set their watches by.
