An Indian survivor orphaned by the tsunami
weeps during a function organized to pay homage to the victims of the
tragedy, in Nagapattinam of southern India, yesterday. India offered
tearful tributes to the thousands killed with countrywide memorial
services, silent marches and beachside ceremonies. India lost more than
16,000 people and suffered material damage estimated by the United Nations
at US$2.5 billion. |
