Heng Yuan Xiang, China's leading woollen wear producer, has been named non-sportswear sponsor of the 2008 Olympic Games.

The Shanghai-based company, which was founded in 1927, inked its sponsorship deal with the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) here on Thursday.

According to the deal, Heng Yuan Xiang will provide funds, formal wear, homeware and other textile products to the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics, BOCOG, the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Chinese sports delegations to the Olympic Games.

But both sides refused to reveal the value of the contract.

Early in the year, German sportswear giant Adidas became BOCOG's partner, the top level of local sponsoring program.

BOCOG's marketing director Yuan Bin said that the signing up of Heng Yuan Xiang does not contradict Adidas' partnership with the organizing committee.

"Heng Yuan Xiang's products mainly include formal wear and woollen wear, while Adidas is the sponsor of sportswear," said Yuan.

"We will make full use of the Olympic platform to further promote the brand of Heng Yuan Xiang," said Liu Ruiqi, Chairman of the board of Heng Yuan Xiang Group.

The Marketing Program of the 2008 Olympics consists of three tiers: partners, sponsors and suppliers. Up till now, 10 partners have been signed up, namely Bank of China, China Network, Sinopec, CNPC, China Mobile, Volkswagen, Adidas, Johnson & Johnson, Air China and PICC P&C. The seven sponsors are UPS, Haier, Sohu, Yili, Tsingtao Beer, Yanjing Beer, BHP Billiton and Heng Yuan Xiang.
