The train station in Xuzhou city, east China's Jiangsu Province, has started to sell sleeper tickets by gender, that is, to have only men or women in one cabin, reported the Beijing News on Sunday.

People are asked about the gender of passengers when buying soft berth tickets as one move that the train station adopts to avoid inconvenience when men and women passengers stay in one room.

According to the report, dozens of sexual harassment cases happen in hard and soft sleeper carriages every year.

Besides inconvenience of staying with men in a berth, female passengers also have safety concerns.

The train station registers gender information of passengers and allocate the train tickets.
