China's gross domestic product is likely to grow 9.4 percent this year and by about 9 percent in 2006, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the government's leading think-tank, said in a report published on Monday.

The Financial News newspaper quoted a report by CASS as saying that the growth slowdown would be modest, barring natural disasters and political instability. China's economy has grown at an annual rate of more than 9 percent for the last nine quarters, a record economists expect to be extended this quarter.

Growth in both 2004 and 2003 was 9.5 percent.
