LISBON -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday spoke highly of the role Macao has played in linking China and Portugal as well as Portuguese-speaking countries at large.

Wen, who arrived at Lisbon for a two-day official visit, made the remarks when answering questions from Macao press on Friday evening.

"Over the past six years after Macao returned to China, the cooperation between Macao Special Administrative Region and Portugal has been enhanced," Wen said.

As a linkage for the exchanges between China and Portugal, and a platform for the cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, Macao would see its role of bridge further enhanced, the premier said.

In the meantime, Wen, who had just held talks with Portuguese leaders, said the all-around strategic partnership between China and Portugal would facilitate the cooperation between Macao and Portugal.

"I also believe, the friendly exchanges between Macao and the world at large would be further strengthened in days to come," Wen said.
