Brad Pitt is said to be proposing to Angelina Jolie

The heartthrob actor is allegedly desperate to tie the knot with the pillow-lipped beauty - but she doesn't want to hurry to the altar.

A friend claimed: "Angie is addicted to her independence.

"She's happy with Brad and doesn't want to jinx the relationship."

The insider says Angelina wants to make sure her romance with Brad - who has filed a legal bid to officially adopt her two children, Maddox and baby Zahara - is right before she ties the knot.

The source added to Britain's Grazia magazine: "There'll be a marriage eventually, but Angelina will say when.

"She's already had two failed marriages and wants to be 100 per cent sure this time."

But the pair may decide to bring the reported nuptials forward as Pitt faces a stream of legal red tape in trying to adopt his lover's children out of wedlock.

The actor's decision to adopt the youngsters as a bachelor will result in mountains of paperwork, a high fee and in-home supervision.

A lawyer said: "This is not the easiest way of doing things. Frequently, what you do if you are in a relationship with someone and you want to adopt their children, you marry them and do a step-parent adoption. There are extra requirements when you are not related by marriage to the children you are adopting."

The adoption fee in Los Angeles is $US775 and the process takes approximately three to six months. But since Pitt is filing as a second parent he has to pay $US2950 and faces far more scrutiny.
