Woods voted player of the year for seventh time

NEW YORK, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Tiger Woods was voted PGA Tour player of the year for the seventh time in nine years on Tuesday, capping off a comeback season that included major victories at the U.S. Masters and British Open.

After undergoing a torturous swing overhaul that limited him to a single title in 2004, Woods returned to form and the top of the world rankings in 2005, claiming six titles and over $10 million in earnings.

Along with the Jack Nicklaus trophy that goes to the player of the year as selected by his peers, Woods' crowded mantlepiece will also hold the Arnold Palmer Award as the Tour's top money winner and the Byron Nelson Award for lowest scoring average (68.66).

In other awards announced on Tuesday, American Sean O'Hair was voted PGA Tour rookie of the year after winning the John Deere Classic and more than $2 million in his first season on the Tour.

Olin Browne was named the comeback player of the year battling back from shoulder and back injuries to win the Deutsche Bank championship.

Jason Gore took Nationwide Tour player of the year honours, winning consecutive events and earning an immediate promotion the PGA Tour.

Shortly after his promotion Gore won the 84 Lumber Classic to cap off his dream season.

Campbell 2005 European Tour golfer of the year

LONDON, Dec 5 (Reuters) - New Zealander Michael Campbell was announced as 2005 European Tour Golfer of the Year on Monday after capturing the U.S. Open and World Match Play Championship.

Campbell had to go through regional qualifying in England to win through to the U.S. Open proper at Pinehurst in June but he beat an elite field including world number one Tiger Woods to claim his first major title.
