Hewitt's actress wife gives birth to baby girl

Australian tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt and his actress wife, Rebecca Cartwright, have had a baby girl.

"Lleyton and Bec are pleased to announce the overnight arrival of their first child, a healthy baby girl," Rob Aivatoglou, Hewitt's manager, said Tuesday. "At this stage Lleyton and Bec have not announced a name for their new arrival."

The baby was born early Tuesday morning in a Sydney hospital.

Aivatoglou said the mother and baby "are doing extremely well" and "Lleyton and Bec are absolutely thrilled."

Hewitt, 24, and Cartwright, 22, began dating late last year and were engaged six weeks later. Hewitt proposed the night he lost the Australian Open final to Russia's Marat Safin on Jan. 30.

Hewitt opted out of the recent Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, China, to be sure he was in Sydney for the birth.

He finished the year at No. 4 in the ATP rankings, behind No. 1 Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick.
