Schalke prepare to do Bayern a favour (Reuters) Updated: 2005-11-25 10:23
Ze Roberto should be fit to take his place on the left wing despite missing
training on Wednesday because of illness.
Mainz will be without experienced forward Niclas Weiland, who suffered a
thigh muscle strain in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Hamburg SV, in third place a point behind Bremen, have a tricky game at Bayer
Leverkusen on Saturday.
Benny Lauth scored his first goal of the season for Hamburg in last weekend's
2-0 win over Duisburg and that should be enough to keep him in the starting
line-up alongside Sergej Barbarez.
Fiorentina and Toni take top form to Rome
MILAN, Nov 25 (Reuters) - AS Roma and Fiorentina face pressure of differing
kinds in their Serie A meeting at the Olympic stadium on Sunday.
Fiorentina, who avoided relegation only on the final day of last season, have
exceeded all expectations and are third, level on points with AC Milan who they
beat last weekend 3-1.
Cesare Prandelli's side are just five points behind leaders Juventus and will
be keen to keep within firing range of the champions before they meet in
Florence on December 4.
Roma got a taste of just how strong Fabio Capello's Juve are when they
suffered a 4-1 hammering at home last weekend.
The result was also a reminder of just how far Roma have fallen since the
days when Capello was their coach and guided them to the 'scudetto' in 2001.
While the club have no illusions about their chances this season and coach
Luciano Spalletti is facing little criticism, another setback on Sunday will set
off alarm bells. Roma are already 15 points behind Juve and 13 points off the
bottom.
Fiorentina's success has been built upon the prolific form of Italy
international striker Luca Toni who is Serie A's top scorer with 15 goals from
the opening 12 games.
