Chinese student stabbed to death in Malaysia Updated: 2005-11-23 16:11 An accounting student from
China was stabbed to death during a robbery in Kepong yesterday.
Soon Kun, 24, had recently graduated from Inti College in Nilai, Negri
Sembilan, and was making plans to return to China.
His body is at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary. Police are trying to
contact his family in the Hunan Province through the college.
A suspect, said to be Soon’s friend, has been detained to facilitate
investigations. Witnesses saw the suspect cradling Soon just after the China
national was stabbed.
The incident occurred about 3.30pm near the kitchen of a restaurant at Jalan
Metro Barat at the Metro Prima business centre in Kepong.
Police learnt that Soon had just sold his car, a Proton Satria, to his friend
for RM14,000. It is believed that Soon was disposing of his belongings before
returning to China.
The two agreed to meet in Kepong to finalise the business transaction. It is
learnt that Soon picked up the suspect from the Kepong Komuter station just
before 3pm and they both had a drink at a restaurant in Metro Prima.
It is learnt that the money was given to Soon in a bag. They both entered the
car when Soon realised that one of the front tyres was punctured.
As he stepped out to inspect the tyre, two men armed with knives confronted
the duo.
One of the suspects pushed Soon’s friend down in the car while the other held
Soon at knife point.
Police believe Soon put up a struggle, and was stabbed twice, in the neck and
chest.
Witnesses told police the assailant grabbed the bag which Soon was holding
before fleeing with his accomplice on foot.
Soon stumbled back to the restaurant where he collapsed and died.
City CID deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Ramli Din said they are not
discounting the possibility that the assailant could have also sustained
injuries.
“This would explain why Soon was shirtless when police arrived at the scene.”
Ramli confirmed that they have detained Soon’s friend for questioning and
that he will be remanded today for further investigations.
Soon is the third student from China murdered in the past one yuear.
In February, 17-year-old Li Ming Qian, a student of Lagenda College in
Mantin, Negri Sembilan, was found murdered in a ditch in Kampung Kanchung
Tengah, Banting.
A post mortem revealed that the English language student was raped, sodomised
and strangled to death.
Li had left her hostel on Feb 1 and contacted a housemate the same night,
informing her that she was in Klang and asked whether RM50 was sufficient for a
taxi ride from Klang to Mantin.
It was the last time anyone ever heard from her.
Several men were picked up to facilitate investigations but were subsequently
released.
Her killers are still at large.
In September last year, 14-year-old Xu Jian Huang, a student of Mutiara
International Grammar School, was found drowned in the swimming pool of his
uncle’s bungalow in Ampang.
His businessman uncle and two of the latter’s bodyguards were charged with
his murder, but they were acquitted by the High Court without their defence
being called.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers has filed an appeal.
