Eight killed, 18 injured in central China traffic accident

CHANGSHA, November 20 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed and 18 others injured in a major traffic accident happening on Saturday in central China's Hunan Province.

The local police said the mishap took place at around 11:00 a.m. when a minibus overturned and fell into a river from the seven-meter-high mountain path in the county of Xupu.

Seven people were killed on the spot and another one died on the way to hospital. Eighteen other passengers were injured in the accident.

Local police source said on Sunday that the maximum seating capacity of the minibus was 16, but it was carrying 32 people when the accident occurred.

Investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway.

Road accident kills three in east China

HEFEI, November 20 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed in a car-tractor collision on Saturday afternoon in east China's Anhui Province.

Local police said on Sunday that the accident occurred at 3 p.m. in Lu'an City of the province, when a sedan car crashed into the rear of a tractor which was making a turn. Two persons were killed on the spot and one of the three injured died later in hospital.

The two other injured are still receiving medical treatment as of Sunday afternoon, and investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.
