Chen Yi, a junior with Southwest University in Chongqing whose online appeal for donation to save her ill mother created a stir in the cyberspace because she volunteered to "sell" herself to the donor, signs a document to forward the donations left to a foundation for leukaemia children November 5, 2005. On September 16, Chen posted the appeal at a website community, saying he would like to work for anyone who donates to save her seriously ill mother. Many people donated, and an even bigger group of netizens suspected that it could be a fraud, causing a cyberspace debate. Chen received about 100,000 yuan in donations, and used about 40,000 yuan on her ill mom before she died October 22. Chen decided to forward the amount not yet used to the foundation to help more people in need. [Chongqing Times]
