Coal mine accident leaves 1 killed, 6 others missing

A gas explosion took place Wednesday afternoon in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, leaving 1 killed and 6 others missing, the local source said.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. in the Changping Coal Mine, about 40 kilometers west to Fengjie County of the municipality.

Twenty-seven miners were working underground in the mine when the gas blast occurred, leaving 1 dead, 6 others missing and many others injured, the source said, adding that 20 of miners were rescued.

By press time, the rescue operation in search of the missing isstill going on and the investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
