Wu Bangguo: Milestone in space program (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-10-17 09:29
Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo said in Beijing Monday that
Shenzhou-6's successful space flight indicated a landmark progress of China's
space technology and great achievement of China's space experiments tended by
human.
Wu, chairman of the Standing committee of China's National People's Congress
(NPC), said the success "is of great significance for elevating China's prestige
in the world and promoting China's economic, scientific and national defense
capabilities, and its national cohesiveness."
Wu and other Chinese leaders, including Jia Qinglin, Huang Ju and Wu
Guanzheng, watched the successful landing of Shenzhou-6 at the Beijing Aerospace
Command and Control Center. Wu then read a congratulatory message from the
Central Committee of the CommunistParty of China (CPC), the State Council, and
the Central Military Commission.
The message expressed congratulation and concerns for the hero astronauts and
all space workers, urging them to further contribute to China's manned
spaceflight technology, and to actively apply space resources to benefit
mankind.
Chen Bingde, commander-in-chief of China's space program, announced earlier
that China's second manned space flight is a complete success after the
Shenzhou-6 re-entry capsule landed safely in north China as
planned.
