Even though their stay might last less than 24 hours, the Merengues and their supporters can only be happy after a 3-0 win Saturday over rivals Atletico Madrid at Vicente Calderon. Brazilian striker Ronaldo scored twice in the victory.

The heated match started with some physical play, resulting in Atletico's Antonio Lopez being sent off early for hauling down Real striker Raul in the penalty area. Ronaldo stepped up to the spot and scored the first of his three goals.

On the third and final goal, however, Ronaldo hurt himself and needed to be stretchered off the field. He suffered an apparent ankle injury and his status for Wednesday's Champions League contest against Norwegian side Rosenborg is currently unknown.

Real Madrid now has 15 points after seven La Liga games this season. But surprising Getafe and Celta Vigo can pass the 'galacticos' in the standings with wins on Sunday. Celta plays at Osasuna and Getafe plays on the road against Real Betis.

Last year's champions Barcelona continued to struggle Saturday when it blew a two-goal lead in the second half against Deportivo La Coruna at the Riazor. Ronaldinho's two goals went to waste as Depor used late strikes from Pedro Munitis and Ruben Gonzalez to end the match tied at 3-3.

Villarreal could only muster a 1-1 draw earlier Saturday against lowly Alaves. Roger Garcia scored early for Villarreal but Nene eventually equalized for the home side.
