Beijing to build "green roofs"
(CRI)
Updated: 2005-10-10 16:20

Beijing plans to green its city's roofs in a government plan over the next four years.

According to the plan, the municipal government will finance the "green roofs" project to the tune of 20 million yuan, or 2.4 million US dollars.

The plan will cover at least one million square meters.

The city has set up particular standards to specify the optimal plants for each garden.

The green rooftops in urban areas are designed to prevent stormwater runoff pollution, and to lower urban temperatures, and improve air quality.
