Fidelity agreement: last resort for wedlock ethics?

FIDELITY AGREEMENTS DO NOT ENSURE GOOD BEHAVIOR

With proof presented by a private detective company, Liu Lan found the same story happen: her husband fled out of track again, with the same girl.

Fidelity agreement has become the last resort Liu Lan could turn to, but it is hard to put in reality. Liu's husband told thecourt that he took the agreement as some kind of "jeu de mots", just as a way to reunite him with Liu Lan.

"The agreement should be regarded as 'void' since it is not my real intention," argued Liu's husband.

Lawyer Liu Zhiwei said his firm has received more consultant cases concerning wedlock fidelity agreements. "The legal circle hasn't found any convergence on the issue," said the lawyer, noting that it's rare for the plaintiff to win such cases.

Deng Guizang, director of Harbin city notary bureau, said that his bureau recently handled three notarization cases concerning marriage fidelity. "More couples come for fidelity notarization, but my bureau will not handle any cases with contents breaching legal items," he added.
