A team of eight Chinese TV stations will provide feeds of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, according to a memorandum of co-operation signed between the companies and the Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Co Ltd (BOB) yesterday.

According to the agreement, eight contracted Chinese TV stations CCTV, Beijing TV, Guangdong TV, Jiangsu Broadcasting Station, Liaoning TV, Shanghai Media Group, Tianjin TV and Zhejiang TV will provide international TV and radio (ITVR) feeds for table tennis, badminton, the modern pentathlon, football, basketball, volleyball and tennis.

It is the first agreement the BOB has signed with a TV station for feeds from the Beijing Games.

"It is the first time Chinese TV stations have participated in the production of ITVR feeds from the Games on such a large scale," said Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice-president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and chairman of the board of BOB.

"The Chinese TV industry can benefit from playing a growing role in the production of ITVR feeds for the Olympics and through these efforts, the industry can raise its production standards to new heights," he added.

At the Athens Olympic Games last year, CCTV produced ITVR feeds for table tennis, badminton and the modern pentathlon for the host broadcaster, the first time a Chinese production team has been involved.

In order to fulfil the agreement, more than 600 Chinese TV personnel will work at 19 competition venues.

"We will encourage more Chinese TV stations to get involved in producing Olympic feeds to cover more sports," Jiang added.
