Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has decided not to appeal against his team's 1-0 defeat to Espanyol at the weekend.

Real were left fuming when the referee appeared to blow for a foul before Daniel Jarque headed in the only goal of the game, only to then allow it to stand.

Real considered asking for the game to be replayed, but Perez had chosen not to pursue this.

"It's out of respect for Espanyol and their fans that we are not going to appeal against the result," he said.

"We know that we are right but we are satisfied that with this we have contributed to the improvement of refereeing."
