Firework plant blast kills 10 in Hunan

A firework plant blast Thursday has claimed ten lives and left four other people injured, in Anhua county of central-south China's Hunan Province, according to local government sources.

Li Huashan, director of the Anhua work safety supervision bureau, told Xinhua that the blast occurred at about 5:00 p.m., when it first banged in a workshop and then exploded in another six workshops of the Jiangnan Fireworks Plant.

The blast has devastated a space of approximately 500 square meters and all the workshops turned into debris. Ten people were confirmed dead and four others injured, with one severely injured at 9:30 p.m..

According to Li, there were 17 fireworks plant in Anhua county,and eight of them were already closed because of security reasons.  

The investigation is underway for the cause of the accident.
